Home recording studio equipment.
I have an acoustic guitar and play with a number of local musicians. Last Monday a guy brought in a XML to USB converter to our "Acoustic Night".
It had 2 XML ports for microphones or equipment and supported phantom mikes. He told me that he could record two channels simultaneously and then email the digital recording for someone else to add their track. Very useful for musicians that live miles apart.
After listening to the Jan 22 broadcast of the Help Desk I asked him more details about his gadget as I think it was what your caller was looking for.
He sent me this link.
That device is a m-audio mobile pre.
